The reclamation concept aims to integrate the quarry in the landscape, with the support of methods of landscape analysis and the use of processes of specific operations of reclamation. The reclamation is based on grading to integrate the area within the topography and the use of natural species of vegetation.

Master plan. The reclamation options include the grading of the excavation fronts, the plantation of tree species, coherent with the ones that exists on the site, the application of a ground cover with natural grasses and the plantation with local shrubs.

The sequence and development of the reclamation operations are achieved by integrating and articulating them throughout the exploitation operations. This method allows a faster reclamation of the area with the proposed vegetation and the restitution of the original ground cover.

Visibility diagram. The visibility is calculated from the “viewshed” operation of the geographic information systems. The characterization of the visibilities considers the topography and the land uses, where is possible to define the visual axes that will show what are the most visible areas.

Visual absorption diagram. The visual abortion aims to understand which areas, are the most vulnerable to any visual modification in the landscape and how visible will it be from certain locations. This analysis considers the topography, land use, visual exposure and visibility areas.

Visual quality diagram. The visual quality of the landscape depends of the intrinsic factors of the landscape, such as the vegetation, the topography, the presence of water, the anthropic elements and the visual quality of the composition, which is associated to the complexity of the landscape.

The landscape reclamation process requires methods of analysis, which will allow the assessment and the harmonious integration of the quarry in the landscape.
This project proposes a methodology of reclamation that begins with a process of analysis, by determining the visual effect of the quarry in the landscape. The process of analysis includes the assessment of the landscape visual absorption capacity and the landscape visual quality. The options of reclamation results from the sum of these factors of analysis.
The reclamation of the quarry aims to restitute the initial land uses by using natural vegetation. Not only these options will reclaim the site’s visual and ecological quality, but also they will return the identity to the place.
