In a context characterized by large logistics infra-structures and the maritime relationship
with the city of Sines, the exercise intends to generate new spaces that emphasize and
establish a new way of inhabiting this hybrid system between Industry and the City. The
project developed in the dissertation integrates part of the preexistence and basically
involves three new interventions with the objective of resolving transitions between
antagonistic spaces and making them complementary to each other.
The proposal redraws a new coastline and establishes several quota links with this
transition axis by restructuring the way this space is lived. This new space is based on the
combination of the urban industrial city with the natural one. Alongside the promenade, the
green area created along the same, complements the proposal with the intention of
maintaining the connection to the ancient pine forests and fields that once united the
Vincentian coast. The created green curtain will serve not only for protection, but will also
define new public domain spaces such as gardens, leisure spaces, socializing and
entertainment. This sensitive route begins in the access to the northeast of the marginal,
crossing the whole coastal limit of the city, towards the new seaport of Sines.
The new port of Sines, comes with the purpose of combining all the adjacent services of
the program in one single space. The building is suspended at the end of the slope,
supported by five bridges that serve as access to all the focal points of the project. By
keeping the building suspended, a space for public use is automatically provided. A
generous space with generous measures that allow wide openings for a better movement
of people and boats and part of the operations annexed to the port. The framework with
the city allows a greater communion between the city, the port and the quarry. A new
longitudinal view of the coastal boundary, rather than a fragmented sequence of urban
spaces.
