The discovery of this place is a moment that comes increased by a complexity that is not only linked with their local characteristics, but a much broader spectrum. The Tercenas do Marquês are the product of a story that develops in Lisbon, more specifically in Santos-o-Velho.
It will be an operation done on continuous with its history, a key element to reconcile the decisions taken on this heritage. This set belongs to a very specific moment in history, and that consideration sould be necessary to understand, that our new story must have a sense of continuity, not rupture.
Much of the project focuses mainly on the rehabilitation of Tercenas, which are the theme of our intervention. as well as new buildings added. Also to this, we add another set of Tercenas that were discovered along a process of analysis and design at the same time, these are adjacent to the former Tercenas, located more specifically in the Corredor da Torrinha.
It seemed to us that it would be appropriate, and even necessary, for the consistency of the project, that these Tercenas were targeted by an equally careful intervention eventually completing this urban system that we propose. Finally, as inseparable from the Tercenas subject, we have the Palácio do Marquês, in which our intervention will focus more specifically on its two adjacent platforms, one of which connected the street the Rua das Janelas Verdes, and another - the lower bound, the same as the terraces of the Tercenas - it was formerly a garden, which we again make.
Our proposal for the rehabilitation of both the Tercenas and its area confining, sets- by a solution that seeks, above all, create a multidisciplinary urban area with capacity to polarize that area of Santos, which as we know is very degraded, and with a high number of empty buildings.
