1 CAMPUS, 3 MATRICES – CAMPUS DE ECOLE HOTELIERE OF LAUSANNE
Universidade do Porto
This project has its origin in an invitation by EHL Lausanne for the re-qualification and extension of its campus.
The project´s idea is that of separating school life from the student´s personal life, within the campus. Given the terrain´s constrains and the programme complexity, it is not only about creating a physical distance but a fictitious distance, built from the juxtaposition of three composition matrices- programmatic, landscape and morphological – each with its design, function and reference to Visual Arts. A gestural painting by Jackson Pollock, an Abstract piece by the Portuguese Ângelo de Sousa, and a Suprematist painting by Kasimir Malevitch. The interaction between matrices produces within the project, a series of visual games that manage the students ‘perception of the distance to each space. Hence, we idealized a campus with a fluid and dynamic nature, built upon variations and sensations, result of distances and proximities.
