Quinta Real de Caxias' Rehabilitation Proposal
The realisation of the patrimonial and aesthetic value of Quinta Real de Caxias (Royal Manor of Caxias), as well as the degradation of the ensemble - known as a leisure manor, a typology related to old Italian villas - originated the desire to propose its rehabilitation in an harmonized fashion, compatible with such peculiarities.
We propose a new urban park, formally and programmatically complemented by its surroundings, and whose boosting and thematic object is a school of music, integrated in the manor's garden. This way, we redesigned Quinta Real de Caxias according to the foretold signs, whether built, landscape related or urban, under the historical, formal, phenomenological and semiological points of view. Regarding the latter, through semiological analysis, we withdrew the primordial meaning for this manor: the exaltation of nature. This meaning promotes two identifying and characterizing themes of these leisure manors: the water and the garden. These, primordial and structuring in this work, are elements that functionally and sensorially relate to the individual, always addressing the intrinsic particularity of these manors of balancing leisure and production. Internalizing matters that directly relate to human nature, the individual that will inhabit the space, complements the architecture project, improving it. Why, how and to whom it is designed for.
